National Nutrition Month

By Heather Irwin, MS, RD, LDN

In March, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics focuses attention on healthful eating through National Nutrition Month®. This year’s theme, Celebrate a World of Flavors, embraces global cultures, cuisines and inclusivity, plus highlights the expertise of registered dietitian nutritionists.

National Nutrition Month® was initiated in 1973 as National Nutrition Week, and it became a month-long observance in 1980 in response to growing interest in nutrition. The second Wednesday of March is Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day, an annual celebration of the dedication of RDNs as the leading advocates for advancing the nutritional status of Americans and people around the world.

During National Nutrition Month®, the Academy encourages everyone to make informed food choices and develop sound eating and physical activity habits they can follow all year long. The Academy encourages seeking the advice of RDNs – the food and nutrition experts who can help develop individualized eating and activity plans to meet people’s health goals

In today’s world of social media and the internet, you may feel that you are receiving all sorts of conflicting information and it is hard to know what is true and what is false. Did you also know that there is a difference between a nutritionist and a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN)? If you are seeking sound nutrition advice make sure you seek out an RDN to ensure that you are receiving evidence based nutrition recommendations. Did you also know at Bodymetrix Health and Wellness we have nine RDN’s?

If you have a goal you are looking to achieve, have a medical condition, have a picky eater at home, or are simply looking to eat healthier and get help with recipe ideas, we are here to help and look forward to working with you. Stay tuned this month as we will be providing different recipes on the blog to Celebrate a World of Flavors.
